5 amazing tips for planning an essay writing lessons

Teaching your students and children flawless writing can be difficult, but when it comes to essay writing, it is challenging to develop their interest as well as teach them the right method.

As a teacher or parents, you might find it confusing how to communicate the methods to write an excellent essay. Therefore, it is equally difficult for the students to grab the knowledge and fully utilize it. On the other hand, if you prepare and understand how to teach them, they will understand better and have more impact on your words.

That is why when you are planning an essay writing lesson you have to keep in mind these tips and tricks which will help better outcomes:

1. Tell them a story and the importance of essay writing:
Before doing anything, start telling them a short story and ask them to listen carefully. It works with students of all ages especially the students of early age. Once you are done with the story, tell them how you have started it, come to the middle part, the interval and finally to the climax and ending. Now once they have understood it, tell them that essay writing works similarly. In an essay, you start with a beginning, comes to the middle part and then end it with a conclusion. In every section, you support it with statements and unlike a story, it is based on more figures and facts and what you think of a particular topic.
Now after that you can tell them that they have to write an essay for every part of their lives. It is not only beneficial for English Language but for other subjects as well as improving their writing skills at the same time.

2. Plan your essay-- keep the flow in mind:
Now come to the next part where you pick a topic and plan your essay. You can use your board and come up with a title you have already thought of, or ask any student to suggest any topic for an essay. Now ask your students to take a few minutes and come up with things they can think of that topic.
For example: if you have picked the title "My School" ask them what they think and let them answer which may include school name, my class, principal name, the location of the school, etc.

3. Write down your thoughts in bullet points:
Now you can start writing those through in bullet point one by one. Let your students add the new ones while if you find any repetitive thoughts, you can write it together with the previous one with coma.
For example the number of teachers, staff member, helping staff, etc.

4. Arrange beginning, middle and ending parts:
This part is vital and essential. Here you have to decide how many paragraphs will your essay consists. Start with two or three paragraphs and increase it according to their grade if you are teaching lower grades. After determining the number of paragraphs, discuss how they should begin the essay, the middle part and ending portion along with bullet points with each paragraph. This way students will completely understand how to draft a piece keeping in mind the flow of the story and making sure each part of essay have enough number of thoughts and sentences to support it.

5. Write, edit and proofread:
Now come to the final part, where you let the student write an essay keeping in mind the draft and create sentences according to the points mentioned on board.
Now after that you should proofread it thoroughly to eliminate the spelling mistakes, grammar issues, punctuation mistake and any problem with sentence structure.
Now ask students that they can change, remove or improvise with any part they are not satisfied with. Read the complete essay once again and ask them to submit it.
